Applying large decorative feature to give the gates some dimension, and excitement! I look at gates as your front doors, the first thing people see when arriving, what does your entrance say? These large copper leaves have patina to a softer green/copper color.

FOLSOM PRISON ENTRANCE SIGN
The old wooden sign above is not much to speak of when it comes to entrance signs, especially a famous prison like Folsom. I was approached by the Warden and Plant Operations head to come up with a design for a new entrance to the prison. I needed little time to see all the granite material on the grounds that could be used for this project. It took several months of planning, moving granite blocks to the field before starting this project in November 2008. I will add more pictures as this project developes with new letters and plantings. What an honor to have this project and make some improvments to a very old entrance!
The new Folsom Prison sign wall completed! The new wall is built from Granite blocks slavaged from the grounds. These blocks were cut in the 1800's and amass a weight of some 8-10 tons!

With the lettering installed, the wall has taken on a whole new look. Preparation for planting will be taking place over the next few months as the weather warms and plant material is large enough for installation.
